1. The council of the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland has hailed the decision of the Zamfara State Government to approve gun licenses. The government gave the approval to enable individuals to carry firearm for defence against terrorists who have continued to attack innocent citizens of the State.

2. Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, have sued the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and other relevant agencies over controversy surrounding the real age of David Ukpo, the supposed organ donor.

3. A Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State ‎has been abducted by suspected bandits terrorizing the area. The DPO, who was recently posted to the area, was reportedly on his way to Birnin Gwari to report at his duty post‎ when he was abducted on Monday.

4. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, yesterday, resigned his appointment on health ground. He was subsequently conferred with the national award of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

5. Senator Godiya Akwashiki, representing Nasarawa North, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmaker announced his resignation from the party during the inauguration of the construction of Nasarawa Eggon/Galle road, on Monday.

6. Neither Atiku Abubakar, Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) can fix Nigeria’s challenges. Convener of the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), Prof Ango Abdullahi said this in an interview on Monday.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN. Justice Ariwoola was born on the 22nd of August 1958 and is currently the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court.

8. Ansaru terrorist group has banned political activities in many communities in the Eastern part of Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, according to Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives’ Union (BEPU). Ishaq Kasai, BEPU Chairman, who raised an alarm on this, said the group regularly recruits young residents and marry young girls in the area.

9. A former presidential candidate and Special Adviser to Imo State Governor on Political matters, Batos Nwadike, has tendered his letter of resignation. In a letter of resignation addressed to Governor Hope Uzodiinma, Nwadike asked the governor to refund him the sum of N77,200,000, he spent to run his office.

10. Ahead of the case coming up today before Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has called on his supporters to “maintain absolute civility in their conduct, as has always been demonstrated.” Kanu’s lawyer and leader of his legal team, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday after a routine visit to his client in the headquarters of the Department of State Services.

11. President Buhari Swears In Olukayode Ariwoola As Acting CJN
President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN).
This follows the resignation of former CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad earlier on Monday over suspected ill health issues.
Ariwoola was sworn in on Monday at the Council Chambers in Abuja.
He arrived in the company of fellow Justices of the Supreme Court at about 2.45pm in a white tinted coaster bus and headed straight for the Council Chambers.

12. PDP BoT Chairman Threatens To Expose Obasanjo’s Secrets, Gives Him 48 Hours Ultimatum
The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Walid Jibrin has challenged former President Olusegun Obasanjo to provide clarification on his recent statement about Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the PDP.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna State on Monday, Jibrin said Obasanjo should clarify his statement within 48 hours or risk his secrets getting exposed to Nigerians and the entire world.
The threat from the PDP BoT chairman follows a statement credited to Obasanjo in which he said picking Atiku as his running mate in 1999 was a mistake.
However, Jibrin in his reaction said Obasanjo must openly accept or deny the statement credited to him about Atiku within 48 hours or risk getting his secrets exposed.
He added that the former President’s statement might be coming from a place of bitterness and resentment for being denied the opportunity to execute a third term agenda.

13. Why Tinubu’s Presidency Can’t Stop Yoruba Nation Agitation – Akintoye
The leader of the Yoruba self-determination group, Ilana Omo Oodua, Prof Banji Akintoye, has revealed that the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the next President cannot stop the agitation for the Yoruba Nation.
In an interview with Vanguard over the weekend, Akintoye stated that Tinubu’s presidency cannot stop the agitation because the Nigerian system has been rigged and entrenched in corruption.
The 87-year-old Professor asserted that the Ilana Omo Odua group will not abandon the agitation because a Yoruba man emerged as the next Nigerian leader in 2023.
He said that Ilana Omo Odua is an intellectually well-informed group, adding that the emergence of Tinubu as the President will add nothing to the South West.

14. Nigerian Military Reacts As Governor Matawalle Asks Residents To Get Guns Against Bandits
The Nigerian Military has condemned the decision of the Zamfara State Government authorizing pp its residents to take up arms against bandits in the state.
Earlier reported that the commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, in a statement on behalf of the government on Sunday asked the Commissioner of Police to issue a gun license to those eligible for it.
Ibrahim said that the government has resolved to take further measures to deal with the recent escalating attacks, kidnapping, and criminal levies enforced on innocent communities.
The government said it had directed individuals to prepare and obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits, adding that the state commissioner of police has been directed to issue licenses to all those who qualify and are willing to obtain such guns to defend themselves.
Reacting to the development, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Lucky Irabor, on Monday said the Zamfara Governor lacks the powers to issue such directive to residents.
He also noted the Attorney General of the Federation is responsible to interpret the constitution and the laws.

15. Buhari Honours Ex-CJN Tanko With Top National Award
President Muhammadu Buhari has honoured the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Ibrahim Tanko, with the national award of Grand Commander of the Order of Niger, GCON.
The award is coming barely 24 hours after Tanko’s resignation as CJN was confirmed in a letter.
Tanko was honoured with the prestigious award at the swearing-in ceremony of the Acting CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The event was reportedly witnessed by a few dignitaries, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and some Justices the of Supreme Court.
The award conferred on Tanko is the second-highest honour in the country.
President Buhari commended Tanko for his service as the CJN and wished him well in his next phase of life.

16. Ahmed Gulak’s Suspected Killer Arrested
A 38-year-old, Anosike Chimobi, involved in the murder of Ahmed Gulak, a former Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has been arrested by operatives of the Imo State Police Command.
Micheal Abattam, a State Police Spokesperson, on Monday said Chimaobi, a native of Umuedo, Ahiazu Mbaise council area of the state, was arrested following a sophisticated investigation by police operatives.
He further added that the suspect would be charged to court after he confessed to being among the terrorists who attacked the onions truck at Enyiogwugwu junction Aboh Mbaise L.G.A, Imo State, on May 30.
The PPRO explained that the suspect was among the “terrorists that murdered Ahmed Gulak on May 30, 2021, along Imo State Airport Road.”
He added that he was involved in the burning of Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Ihitte-Uboma, and Obowo police stations,

17. Despite ‘Crisis’, Wike Gets Fresh PDP Appointment
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has been named among a 128-member campaign council by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the Osun State Governorship Election on July 16.
The National Working Committee, NWC, on Monday, announced that the party approved the Bayelsa State Governor, Duoye Diri, as the Chairman.
According to PDP’s National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature, the council will be inaugurated on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
Recall that Wike lost the chance to be Atiku Abubakar’s running mate to the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, and has not visited the party’s headquarters.
Over the past few days since Atiku decided to pick Okowa as his running mate, there have been speculations that the Rivers governor is plotting an exit from the PDP.
It is yet to be known if the governor will attend the inauguration of the campaign council on Wednesday, 28, in Abuja.

18. Okowa Is Power Drunk, Can Betray Anytime – Senator Nwaoboshi
The lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwaoboshi, has described the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ifeanyi Okowa, as a power-drunk.
The All Progressives Congress member, while reacting to the emergence of Okowa as the running mate of Atiku Abubakar, tagged him as a betrayal.
Nwaoboshi stated this during an interview with Vanguard, where he noted why he dumped PDP for APC ahead of the 2023 election.
He wondered why Okowa held a meeting with the South-South forum where he called for power to move to the South, only for him to campaign for the vice-presidential slot 48 hours after.

19. Insecurity: Uzodinma Gives 10 Days Ultimatum To Bandits In Imo
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has issued a 10-day ultimatum to bandit terrorists operating in the state, vowing to launch a brutal attack if criminality persists.
The governor lamented that the state forests had become a haven for terrorists parading as unknown gunmen.
Governor Uzodinma, while addressing the people of the state at the Government House Chapel Owerri shortly after Sunday Service, said his government is about to launch an aggressive attack on the criminals.
He warned the criminals hiding in the forests to immediately relinquish their arms to their traditional rulers for unconditional pardon or face bombardment if they failed to do so.

20. 2023: Why INEC Dropped Umahi’s Name As Ebonyi South APC Senatorial Candidate
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro Emegha has said that the omission of Governor David Umahi’s name from the shortlisted APC senatorial candidates was a minor error.
Speaking with Journalist in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Emegha said the Independent National Electoral Commission has corrected Umahi’s name and the national leadership of All Progressives Congress was not responsible for the omission.
According to Emegha, there was a re-election of the APC senatorial position in Ebonyi South.
He added that people should disregard the information making the rounds online because he has confirmed with INEC and Umahi’s name has been corrected.
